Serving many communities across Manitoba, Red River Rage Ringette continues to grow, and as the sport's popularity rises, the program is open to players of all skill levels, including those who are brand new and just want to try it out.
"Every year we're excited to bring in the brand new crop of players and returning players that come back for the upcoming season," President of the Rage, Eric Austman, says with a big smile. "It's usually been a long enough summer, and people are ready for a bit of a change and to get back into it and get on the ice."
When it comes to which ages the Rage focus on, Austman says it's kind of wide-ranging. "So at Red River Rage, we have typically six or seven teams, sometimes eight. It spans from about four or five years old up to eighteen years old. They're in two-year age groups, so we'll have, for example, the U10's, U12's, U14, and so on. They typically will come on board early on in their ringette career and go all the way until they age out."
As a program, Austman says there are several different communities where they can have players be from. "So our club itself has a catchment area of the kind of the western side of the Eastman Ringette Association. So we're kind of centralized in Niverville. We also have ice in St. Agathe. We go up to Saint Adolphe, down to Saint Pierre and towards the fifty-nine highway. Then neighbouring us, we have Lorette catchment, Steinbach, Beausejour, Springfield and so on. So, we're all kind of spread out. We play in our own league. We also participate in the Winnipeg Ringette League, but that's the zone where we would draw our players from."
